The first tenet of The Satanic Temple states that “[o]ne should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason,” and it is with this in mind that the Arizona chapter has taken up its latest community action.
Every year litter and road debris poisons waterways and soil, is consumed by wildlife, and causes 25,000 accidents across the country. In Arizona, we clear 590 tons of trash at a cost $3,000,000 and 150,000 hours of labor. It is our chapter’s wish to help other Arizonans enjoy a clean and beautiful state.
Over the course of a year, our chapter will undertake monthly cleanings along our stretch of roadway for a total of eight cleanup dates. This will culminate in a sign showing others our dedication to Keep Arizona Beautiful.
If you wish to help us meet our goal please contact the Safety Coordinator, Lynita Killen.
We cannot thank those who participated enough for dedicating their Saturday morning to helping keep our roadways free of clutter. The next cleanup will be sometime in October! Please let us know if y0u would like to participate.
The second Highway to Hell cleanup went smoothly! Now that it is getting later in the year, it was tolerable cleaning outside even as it got later in the morning. We finished as scheduled and had a nice meal at a restaurant nearby. The next cleanup will be in late November! Please let us know if you would like to participate!
TST AZ is back from their holiday break and are ready to get back on schedule. Juanuary 27th, we are hosting Highway-to-Hell Part 3! This is the third road cleanup out of 8 that we need in order to complete our duties and to receive our sign along the I-10 between Tucson/Phoenix.
Since Highway To Hell made headlines earlier this month, we have had an increased interest from our members. We had lots of help during the 4th cleanup and the members that attended have made it tradition to have a celebratory meal after a hard morning's work. Thank you all for the effort you have put into keeping our highway clean!
A little light on the Highway to Hell cleanup crew this month but that is ok because this crew absolutely rocked it!
We thank our members and allies who have lent a hand in the cleanups. With your help, not only do we keep Arizona beautiful but, with our actions, we prove that we can also make a positive impact in the community as proud Satanists.
Let us know if you would like to lend a hand by sending us a message.
Safety Coordinator Lynita received her certificate of appreciation from ADOT for all her hard work. Congratulations!
A nice little tradition that has surfaced as a result of these highway cleanups has been the brunch dates at nearby eateries. TST AZ Hellions go for a well deserved meal that is a nice relaxer from doing manual labor out in the sun. The Arizona Chapter is proud to have such proactive group of people!
Only two more cleanups to go after this! The next one is scheduled in late May and will be filmed as a part of a TST documentary, to be released at a later date.
The crew flew out the week of the cleanup to meet with TST AZ and were able to record footage of AZ's Hellions while cleaning up the highway.
This film will be amazing when it finally releases in theaters next year and those that attended this cleanup will have the opportunity to be seen in it.
The cleanup crew began an hour earlier than their usual time to avoid some of that summer heat. It was great to have some new faces join TST AZ on this day. We thank all of the individuals that dedicated their time for this campaign.
We have submitted our completed cleanups to ADOT and look forward to continuing this campaign for the future.
